Valentine’s in Mexico is referred to as El Dia del Amor y la Amistad, or the day of love and friendship. Chef Matt Lake and his culinary team will be cooking up dinner specials to complement the award-winning regional Mexican cuisine at Alamexo in downtown Salt Lake City all weekend long.
Offerings include entrée selections of Filet de Res con Ricado Negro, Pescado Veracruzana and Sangrado torta del corazón for dessert. Two special Bebidas will be offered, the Amor Añejo and Amistad Añejo. Alamexo is the only restaurant in Utah that carries Espolón Añejo, which is first aged in unused white oak barrels for a year and is finished in heavily charred Wild Turkey bourbon barrels. The damania used in the Amor is a house-made syrup infused with the damania herb. Damania grows wild in Mexico and is said to incite desire; it is also referred to as the only “proven” aphrodisiac. Mexican lore says this was first used in margaritas before Cointreau.
